Jojoba oil is a “liquid wax” cold pressed from the seed of the Jojoba plant. It is well known as an excellent skin moisturizers, and is a popular ingredient in skincare products. The oil has a natural sun protection factor (SPF) of 4, making it unique amongst skincare oils. The oil has a nutty smell and is a clear golden colour. It is shelf stable, if stored at an ambient temperature, for up to two years.

Jojoba oil is renowned for its various benefits for both hair and skin. Here's how it can be advantageous:

For Hair:

  1. Moisturizes Scalp: Jojoba oil's molecular structure is similar to that of the natural oils produced by the scalp, making it an excellent moisturizer. It helps balance the scalp's oil production, reducing dryness and flakiness.
  2. Promotes Hair Growth: By keeping the hair follicles moisturized and nourished, jojoba oil can promote healthy hair growth.
  3. Strengthens Hair: Its moisturizing properties help strengthen the hair shaft, reducing breakage and split ends.
  4. Adds Shine: Jojoba oil smooths the hair cuticles, giving the hair a healthy shine and luster.
  5. Protects Hair: It forms a protective barrier around the hair strands, shielding them from environmental damage, heat styling, and UV rays.

For Skin:

  1. Moisturizes and Softens: Jojoba oil is an excellent moisturizer for the skin, providing long-lasting hydration without clogging pores. It leaves the skin soft, smooth, and supple.
  2. Balances Oil Production: Jojoba oil's structure closely resembles the skin's natural sebum, making it effective in regulating oil production. It can help control excess oiliness in oily skin and provide moisture to dry skin.
  3. Soothes Irritation: Its anti-inflammatory properties make jojoba oil soothing for irritated skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and sunburns.
  4. Fights Acne: Contrary to popular belief, jojoba oil can help balance oil production in the skin, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin. It also has antibacterial properties that can help prevent acne breakouts.
  5. Reduces Signs of Aging: Jojoba oil contains antioxidants such as vitamin E, which help protect the skin from free radical damage and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

How to Use:

  1. Hair: Massage jojoba oil into the scalp and hair, focusing on the roots and ends. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for deep conditioning) before shampooing as usual.
  2. Skin: Apply a small amount of jojoba oil to clean, dry skin and massage gently until absorbed. It can be used as a facial moisturizer, body lotion, makeup remover, or massage oil.
